Kevin Pietersen hopeful for selection in New Zealand tour ? Cricket News Update

Exiled England batsman Kevin Pietersen has expressed the hope that his ongoing stand-off with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will reach a speedy resolution, paving the way for his selection in England?s tour of New Zealand next year.

?Hoping all's sorted and I'm on the NZ tour in Feb,? Pietersen said during a Twitter conversation with New Zealand rugby player Dan Carter on Friday. England are due to tour New Zealand next year in February/March, for a series of 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs, and 3 Tests.

Prior to the Pietersen's Twitter conversation, team captain Alastair Cook had confirmed that in addition to having met up with the out-of-favour batsman himself, talks between Pietersen and the England team management were still ongoing, with Hugh Morris and David Collier in Sri Lanka, were Pietersen is working as a TV pundit during the ongoing ICC World Twenty20.

?I did have a meeting with Kev ... Time, hopefully, will be a healer and we'll be able to move on,? said Cook, maintaining an optimistic outlook. ?At the present time, though, the issues haven't been resolved so he can't be selected.?

Following the worsening of the spat between the two parties, Pietersen was not only excluded from the line-up for the final Test against South Africa in a series played last month, but also from the squad for the ongoing ICC World Twenty20 2012. Player of the Match from England?s 2009-10 World T20 triumph, Pietersen?s exclusion from the team illustrated the severity of the situation.

Speculations regarding the right-hander?s inclusion in the Test squad for England?s all-important tour of India later this year arose, but discussions between the two sides had not reached a sufficiently satisfactory conclusion, according to Cook, and as a result, Pietersen was not selected.

?It's sad that ... we're not taking Kevin to India, but that is the reality,? Cook said. Pietersen has since gone on to express his disappointment with the board?s decision to exclude him.

?We are trying to do what is best for English cricket,? the newly-appointed Test captain went on to add. ?I think he can play for England again, certainly, but there are still issues to be resolved and until that happens he is unavailable.?

Pietersen announced his retirement from international limited-overs cricket earlier this year ? a decision which he went on to retract, but which triggered a series of events that have led to his falling-out with the ECB.
