Council moves fast to set up Olympic celebration ... - BBC World News

Double Olympic gold medallist Laura Trott has been given permission for a street party celebration after her local council invoked a Victorian act of Parliament. But then the county council found that the 1847 Town Police Clauses Act permits ?thronging on the highway? and celebrations at short notice, and informed the local council, who gave the plan the green light. ?The red tape process was quite long, so we were asked to intervene under powers that we had. It was a definite ?yes?,? said local councillor Paul Mason. ?We reacted within hours.? Trott?s father Adrian said ?everything is complete and we are ready to roll? for celebrations. Trott could also find herself immortalised locally, as the council are considering building a cycle bridge over local train tracks or renaming either a street or the local leisure centre. Trott was part of Great Britain?s all-conquering track cycling team at London 2012, winning gold in the women?s team pursuit and omnium. PICTURES: London 2012 Olympics track cycling day 11
